Appalachian Christmas

Chattanooga Tennessee’s Winter Days and Lights Celebration culminated Friday, December 16 with Appalachian Christmas, a holiday favorite for 18 years, with an abundance of cheer and traditional Appalachian folk or bluegrass music. Local favorites, The Morgans & Lynn Haas kicked off the toe tapping evening followed by Appalachian storyteller Elizabeth Rose. Then the Dismembered Tennesseans took the stage, followed by a headline performance by Cherryholmes. Appalachian Christmas was performed at Miller Plaza’s Waterhouse Pavilion.

Here is the recording of Elizabeth telling The Stranger Child (A Christmas Legend) and Whipporwill

It was a fitting title for the event as Appalachian State University (my husband’s Alma Mater) won the NCAA Division 1-AA National Title that same night in Chattanooga. It was indeed an Appalachian Christmas!

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – Marques Murrell forced a fumble and Jason Hunter returned it for a touchdown with 9:14 remaining in the game to give the NCAA Division I-AA National Championship with a 21-16 victory over Northern Iowa on Friday night at Finley Stadium.

As the son of a Presbyterian pastor, born and raised, in Caracas, Venezuela, for 18 years, before I went to The George School, in Bucks County, Pa., I am not afraid to say, I have NEVER, EVER heard a more moving Christmas story in my entire life, and, I would like to put a Christmas present/request to Elizabeth under her beautiful storytelling trees…
Here go these requests I have made to her, on behalf of my beautiful NYCity students of all stripes: http://nitantiao.podomatic.com/
May The Road Forever Rise Up to Meet, Elizabeth Rose.

    Sincerely,
    Ricardo/Richard Green
